Cliff

I want to construct

I crave to create

but all of my energy

is spent on maintaining.

True greatness comes

when you’re willing to

take risks, but how can I

jump off a cliff when I can’t

even climb to the top?

Most people are stuck on

the edge.  I’m planted at

the base, looking at the

pebbles that cascade off

of the feet of others that

dare to try.

I just wanted to be the mud.

I let myself dry out in

the sun and hardened

into a cliff with deep cracks.

Others jump off of me now,

and slough off layers of

crust with the cleats

of their shoes.

I am the base, but

I’m also the edge.

Only erosion and gravity

will be that final push

into the water below.
