Disney’s Mulan Deleted Scene: Reflection
In my opinion, deleting this scene from “Reflection” was a terrible mistake. The song is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but this added part takes a somewhat disparing song and makes being different empowering and strong.

Yeah, Lea Salonga was heartbroken that they cut the song. I can understand why. This part is inspirational.
wow this is gorgeous, it would have really changed the entire tone of her character, and the movie. I don’t know if I would have liked it more for it, it’s one of my favorite Disney films as it is
UNPOPULAR OPINION: This would have been an utterly pointless addition. Mulan achieved everything she sings about in this part, and adding it in song form would have been way too obvious and just. Ugh. No.
I’m glad they cut it. Disney is already terribly unsubtle with its songs the majority of the time, and reflection (yes, the cut version) is perfect as it is in the movie. The rest of the message comes through by way of the rest of the movie. The audience doesn’t need a musical interlude to hold their hand every time.
